D.I.Y Hair Food
Say that again?
That's do-it-yourself hair products using ingredients just lying around innocently in your kitchen! Here are two "recipes" from Teen Vogue that you can try at home. (Although you might want to ponder the mayonnaise. Read on.)
FOODIE HAIR TYPES: TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK!
I know a LOT of you lovely ladies are beauty mavericks and are willing to DIY-it-up with food products. I, it must be admitted, am a beauty scaredycat. I stick to things that have been, um, made for me by Big Business (or, in most cases, Small Organic Businesses). Anyway, for those of you who are brave-brave-brave, here are some kitchen-friendly hair trips from the gurus at LA-based salon The Parlour on 3rd.
To create an olive oil moisturizing treatment:
1. Take 1/4 cup olive oil and pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds.
2. Part your hair into four sections and apply the warm olive oil to your scalp, section by section. Make sure to work the olive oil from the scalp to the ends of your hair.
3. Put a plastic cap on your hair and let the olive oil work its magic for 30 minutes.
4. Remove the cap. Shampoo, condition, and style your hair as usual.
To creative a healthy hair mask:
The easiest, cheapest, and most effective hair mask secret known to stylists is mayonnaise. Who would have thought? Mayo is composed of egg yolk, lemon juice and vinegar, which can strengthen and moisturize your hair. Avoid commercial brands. Stick with organic for best results. Place a plastic bag over your hair after you apply. Leave it on for 30 minutes. If you don't mind smelling like a ham sandwich, the end result is worth it!

Freedom from Frizz
I don't know about you, but when my hair gets static-y I don't get ecstatic over it. As much as I want to have picture perfect hair like all those shampoo commercial girls, I am unfortunately just a meek human being. Nevertheless, there is hope for you and me! Teen Vogue clues us in on solutions to static hair:
1) When styling hair, try not to use a plastic or metal hairbrush. Instead opt to utilize a brush with all natural bristles.
2) When brushing hair, first spritz the brush with spray gloss to avoid hair standing on end. Using the spray gloss isn't as greasy or harsh.
3) If it's a cold day outside and you need to wear a hat, to avoid the static cling flyaways, store a travel size styling wax in your bag. A tiny amount (on the fingertips) will go a long way.

Beauty and Bacteria?
We've all been through it: the inevitable make-up counter samples. While it's great to get free stuff, did you know that you could be getting a lot more for free than you'd want? I'm talking about bacteria here. And it's lurking on that innocent-looking make-up brush.
Here's an interesting article from Bella Sugar on make-up counter hygiene:
BEAUTY AND BACTERIA: A LESSON IN MAKEUP COUNTER HYGIENE
When it comes to sampling chips and dip at a barbecue or sampling makeup at the beauty bar, I've always maintained the same philosophy — no double-dipping allowed. But, even if you don't see the double-dip in action, it doesn't mean the product is safe; in fact, when it comes to makeup, more often than not, it isn't.
The truth is that even if you practice good hygiene, the thousands of mall visitors who frequent the same makeup counter, and even the workers behind it, probably don't. That's what Dr. Elizabeth Brooks of Philadelphia's Jefferson Medical College found when she conducted an extensive study on public makeup testers. Her research revealed staph, strep, and even E. coli bacteria on makeup testers, and on high-traffic mall days, like Saturdays, the percentage of contamination on tester products was 100 percent.
But even Dr. Brooks, who's tested hundreds of makeup counters and has seen the worst of it, isn't afraid of the germs lurking in the samples — she just knows how to handle it. You, too, can brave the beauty bar when you practice safe makeup application. Learn how when you read more.
* Don't dip — Whenever possible, use sample products that don't require finger dipping. Squeeze bottles of creams and lip glosses are always a better alternative to lotion jars or pots of lip gloss.
* Forgo communal tools — Never use shared brushes, and always opt for disposable applicators instead.
* Wipe it clean — Remove or scrape the top layer of lipstick, and always wipe the surface of makeup samples with a tissue and some alcohol. Don't test any products where the top surface cannot be removed, like a face cream or eye cream.
* Be mindful of where you apply — The study also showed that cosmetics used around the lips, eyes, or nose are the worst, resulting in the spread of afflictions like cold sores, conjunctivitis, or pink eye. Therefore, avoid any products that must be directly applied to the nose, eyes, or mouth, especially mascara.
* Be your own healthy advocate — If you don't see rubbing alcohol or disposable applicators, ask for them, and don't be afraid to ask for individual samples as well. Just because they're not out on the counter doesn't mean they're not available.

To Color or Not To Color?
I was never the type who was daring enough to color my hair. Thanks to hair horror stories from friends who got entangled in a hair damaging mess, I've always stayed far away from coloring products.
It also helps that I'm quite fond of my dark hair, actually. But sometimes, I do wonder how it would look if I gave it a just hint of a softer color.
If you're a bit braver than me and actually want to plunge into a color makeover, here's a hair color 101 from Teen Vogue to guide you through it:
HAIR COLOR 101
Hair coloring can be a lengthy and daunting process. I know that whenever I decide to make a dramatic color change, I'm always nervous about whether or not my hair will turn orange, or worse, fall out! Luckily, I caught up with Frauke Neuser, a senior Clairol scientist, who helped clear up some hair coloring myths and provided some really great advice for teens who want to change up their do's without permanently damaging their locks.
What are the most common types of hair and how do they differ?
The latest research suggests that there are 3 main types of hair: fine hair, thick hair and curly hair. Their differences in texture and protein structure not only lead to different sensorial properties, but also to specific needs in terms of caring for and treating the hair.
Is there a hair type that accepts color better than others?
Fine hair has the thinnest diameter and therefore accepts color the best. Thick and curly hair require more color or longer exposure times to get similar color results.
What should girls do before getting their hair colored? What about after the process to protect it?
Don't wash your hair right before coloring - the natural oils on your scalp protect it against possible irritation. However, do brush out any styling product residue. After coloring, always apply a specialized color conditioner... to lock in color.
How often can young women color their hair? Does coloring it a lot in your teenage years do long term damage?
Many women color their hair every 4-6 weeks - depending on how fast the hair grows (and how quickly the roots become visible). Normally, color is then only applied to the roots, where hair hasn't been colored before (and only pulled through the lengths for the last 5-10 mins).
If you want to completely change your color and therefore have to apply color all over your hair every time, you really shouldn't do that too often - depending on the hair length about every couple of months. Coloring only damages the visible part of your hair, it has no influence on the hair bulbs or future growth. So extensive coloring in your teenage years might be stressful for your hair at the time, but shouldn't have any effect on how your hair looks in your 20s and 30s.
What should you look for when picking out an at-home coloring treatment?
Be clear on what you want - if you want to enhance what you have, choose a demi-permanent colorant to start with. If you're ready for a commitment and don't want your color to wash out,
choose a permanent color. Either way, make sure the color on the package is no more than two shades away from your natural color.
How do you cover up or reverse a color that you do not like or are ready to change?
It depends on what color product you have used. Demi-permanent colorants wash out over time - so all you need might be a couple of thorough shampoos. Don't try and cover up a fresh color with another color at home. If you really hate it, go to a hairdresser for advice. If you have had the color for awhile and feel ready for a change, try to not move too far away from where you are now.

Beauty Lessons to Learn from Movie Makeovers
I stumbled upon this from Bella Sugar and I just knew I had to share it with you! Here's an excerpt:
There are so many iconic ugly duckling movie makeovers that you'd think we'd be tired of them, but every few years a film comes out that puts a new, charming twist on the classic Cinderella makeover. And of course, it teaches us a useful lesson or two in the process. For your viewing pleasure, I've put together 10 of my favorite makeover movies with very, very important beauty morals.
The most famous movie makeover besides Cinderella's, Eliza's turn from cockney street gamine to Ascot-ready English rose has had generations of women practicing "The rain in Spain is mainly on the plain."
Lesson learned:
Step 1: Wear big hat
Step 2: Success!
The Dreams in Dreamgirls
In this story based on the rise of Diana Ross and the Supremes, three young girls go from sweet and country to superstardom with the help of some major makeup and wigs. But fame comes with a price, as they lose everything that made them truly happy along the way.
Lesson learned:
Looking good on the outside isn't the same as feeling — or being — good on the inside. Also, Beyoncé looks great in '60s hair and makeup.
Oh, Sandy. Changing for a dumb guy has never looked more fun. Although we can't condone the total personality makeover, you'll notice that when people dress up as characters from Grease for Halloween, their Sandy is always in the outfit from the last scene, because girlfriend looks smokin' hot.
Lesson learned:
Red lipstick, smoky eyes, and big hair will get you everywhere.

Another Doting Dad!
We've caught celebrity dads Jude Law and Greg Kinnear getting weak-kneed in adoration for their children. Now it's rocker dad Joel Madden!
In a recent article at Celebrity Baby Blog, he shares how he goes to his darling little Harlow for her reactions to the demos he records:
JOEL MADDEN GRATEFUL FOR HARLOW'S 'HONEST REACTION'
Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden has legions of fans eager to act as a sounding board for the band’s upcoming studio album, Cardiology.
At the end of the day, however, Madden says it is his 2-year-old daughter Harlow Winter Kate whose opinion he values most.
“She says yea or nay when I record a demo,” he explains in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times. “She gives me the honest reaction.”
Happily proclaiming himself “the best I’ve ever been,” Madden is acutely aware of just how much he has to be grateful for in fiancée Nicole Richie, Harlow and the couple’s 7-month-old son Sparrow James Midnight.
“I have two kids that are my life — they’re my entire world,” he says. “I have an awesome partner who is really supportive; She makes me the best version of myself that I’ve ever been.”
To read the rest of the sweet article, click here!
What a lovely family! And I'm especially impressed with Nicole, who seems to have embraced motherhood so fully. To think, not so long ago, we were shaking our heads at her antics with pal Paris Hilton. It seems this change in her life has allowed her to mellow down. Lovely to see.

Hair Conditioner 101
Hair care products can be quite a challenge. Not only is there a whole wide range of them, oftentimes they don't even work as well as they promise!
It will take multiple blog entries to fully explain the intricacies of hair care (oh boy...) And frankly, we all might not have any more hair by the time I finish. So to spare us all from this, here's just a few handy hints on the most familiar hair care companion---Conditioner!
These are from stylebakeryteen.com:
Conditioner is important for every hair type, but not everyone knows how to use it properly. Here are some tips for getting the most out of your conditioner:
* Apply conditioner starting at the ends, where it's needed the most. Work your way up to about 3/4 of the way.
* Every day conditioner can be rinsed out right away, but for deep conditioning wear a shower cap on your hair and leave in for 5 to 15 minutes.
* To ensure that every strand is coated with conditioner, comb through hair after applying.
* Rinse conditioner out completely. While some people think it's healthy to leave a little bit of conditioner in the hair, it can actually be drying or make your 'do look weighed down and oily. Use your fingers to separate sections of your hair and rinse thoroughly.

Secrets to an Easy Birth
Oh really? Yeah really!
For soon-to-be new moms out there, I'm sure you're having your turn in the roller coaster of emotions women go through during pregnancy.
As your due date approaches, you may find yourself getting anxious about what your labor and delivery will be like. Unfortunately, there's no way to predict exactly how it will go. And with all the birth stories you've heard, you may start growing more and more anxious (even terrified!).
But have no fear! In two features from momversation.com and newparent.com clue you in on the steps that you can take (now and in the birthing room) to ensure that things go as smoothly as possible.
Here's an excerpt:
Keep up your strength.
We all know that the couch can be a pregnant girl’s best friend. But staying active could give you an advantage when it comes time to deliver, says Amy Downey, RN, a labor and delivery nurse at St. Luke’s Wood River Hospital in Ketchum, Idaho.
According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), regular exercise during pregnancy can improve your ability to cope with the pain of labor, as well as speed your recovery afterward. As long as your doctor approves, you should try to do 30 minutes of activity (such as walking, swimming or prenatal yoga) on most, if not all, days of the week. Since childbirth can be a real test of endurance, it’s also important to eat right and stay hydrated, especially during the last trimester, so you have enough energy to go the distance, Downey adds.
Don’t blow off birth class.
Childbirth education classes teach you what to expect during labor and delivery as well as techniques for easing the pain-information that could help you make good choices and possibly even avoid a C-section.
From Lamaze to the Bradley Method to HypnoBirthing, a variety of classes with unique approaches may be available in your area. So before signing up, research the options and be sure the instructor will support you in the kind of birth you want to have, says Lisa Klein, RNC-OB, LRN, MSN, CNS, a clinical nurse specialist in the Women, Children’s and Perinatal Services at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, Va.
Be open-minded.
While it’s good to have an idea of the kind of birth you want, you never know how labor and delivery will go. So know your options and go with the flow.
“Flexibility is the name of the game,” says Jill Janke, PhD, RN, WHNP, a professor at the School of Nursing at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. “If what you’re doing isn’t working to manage your pain or facilitate your labor, keep trying different things until you find something that does.”
Likewise, if you want an unmedicated delivery and you end up getting an epidural, don’t beat yourself up. “I’ve seen many women get discouraged when they don’t stick to their birth plan,” Downey says. “But each labor is different, and what worked for your friend may not work for you.” Remember: It doesn’t really matter how you get there as long as you have a healthy baby in your arms at the end.
Stay vertical.
Research has found that women who spend labor in upright positions tend to have less pain and shorter labors, Janke says. That’s why she suggests staying out of bed as much as possible and letting gravity assist. “It’s the best way to avoid complications,” she explains.
During the first stage of labor, walking around and sitting in a Jacuzzi or on a birthing ball are great ideas. Then, when you’re ready to push, she recommends squatting, which can open up your pelvic outlet and reduce the likelihood that a forceps or vacuum extraction will be necessary. It also can protect your perineum so you’re less likely to tear. Since holding yourself in a squat position can be tiring, you can start preparing your leg muscles now by practicing it a few times a day, Klein says.

What do Men Really Think About Your Hair?
Let's face it. When we take a long time fixing ourselves in front of the mirror, it's not just about making ourselves look good. It's also about making ourselves feel good--especially with the right attention from the opposite sex.
But what do the guys really feel about all our painstaking efforts (or sometimes lack of it) to fix our crowns of glory? A recent article from Cosmopolitan.com posted on Yahoo!'s Shine! network clues us in on what guys think about our hair:
WHAT MEN REALLY THINK ABOUT YOUR HAIR
From uncensored opinions of men to scientific evidence about what turns them on, here's what dudes are paying attention to. We asked 100 guys on the street about these hair trends— and were a little surprised by their answers.
Signature Styles
We asked, do you care if a girl styles her hair the same way every day? 71 percent said no. 29 percents said yes. Jennifer Aniston sticks to her signature style, and hey, it works!
Boho Braids
Are boho braids cute or cuckoo? 83 percent of our guys said cute. 17 percent said cuckoo.
Hair Up? Or Down?
Actually, it might be the action that matters just as much as the style! 43 percent of guys said they love watching a girl put up her hair, while 37 percent said they enjoy watching a girl let down her hair. 20 percent said both are equally hot and Leighton's covered either way!
Asymmetrical Haircuts
When we asked, what do you think of asymmetrical haircuts? 76 percent said they love them. 24 percent said they hate them. Dudes definitely go for Gwyneth's edgy, uneven ends.
Mega-Long Hair
Guys always say they like long hair best, but there has to be a cutoff point, right? When we polled our dudes, 55 percent of men found Lauren Conrad’s mid-length locks sexier than her mega-long mane.
You can read the original article here!
And since fun and flirty hair accessories are back in fashion right now, I wonder what guys would think about feminine floral headbands like Leighton Meester's?
I don't know about you, but I think there's always something appealing about such a pretty, dainty style.
While we can't even begin to fathom the price tag to that lovely piece, here's something that looks close enough but is equally fab AND affordable!

PONDER, PONDER, PONDER...
What's your signature hair style? Do you stick to one style or like to change it up every now and then? What was the best compliment you've received about your hair?

Your Child's Body Image
We live in a world that is obsessed with the external. Everyday, your child is exposed to media that bombards her with images of skinny girls pretending to be overjoyed with their malnourishment. It's no wonder girls as young as 8 or even 6 years old are already concerned about their weight! And this concern should get you concerned.
An article in Breezy Mama addresses how you can help your child have a healthy body image, with tips from pediatrician Dr. Chrystal de Freitas:
BODY IMAGE: TIPS FOR HELPING YOUR CHILD HAVE A HEALTHY ONE
After hearing two six year olds ask one another if they look fat, what would you have recommended I had said?
Children need to be taught that a person’s value is not based on whether they are fat, or on how they look but on how they behave towards others and themselves.
In addition remind children that everyone is different and that our bodies are gifts to them from their parents. Encourage children to find their unique characteristic. This could be that they are funny, athletic, smart, caring and innumerable other traits that make part of our human nature. Nurture that along with a good diet and a healthy portion of exercise.
For moms with older children, what signs should they look for that could indicate an eating disorder?
Signs of an eating disorder may be very subtle and often go unnoticed for months. If your child is experiencing a rapid weight loss, always makes an excuse for not eating, starts to use baggy clothing (as a way to hide the weight loss), plays with his/her food shifting it around in the plate but not eating it – all of these can be red flags. You may also notice an almost obsessive compulsion to exercise. In the more extreme cases, a girl may miss her period, feel light headed and complain of temperature changes – being too cold. These are just a few of the many signs of an eating disorder.
What steps should they take if they suspect their child may have one?
You should visit your health care provider and be open with your concerns. Periodic weight checks and close follow up with a mental health professional may be needed as well as with a nutritionist.

Who's the Girliest of Them All?
Celebrity babies are only human too. They just happen to have famous parents, almost-instant-access to their dreams, plus a hoard of paparazzi clicking away at every yawn, giggle, tantrum, and budding fashion sense.
We will never know what the fascination is all about, but there sure are some celebrity kids who stand out among the rest. Who make even ordinary folks like us to take a second look and gush: "My girl MUST have that dress!"
Celebrity Baby Scoop gives us a roundup of Hollywood's favorite little girls and why we can't stop watching them:
Suri Cruise
Suri is the queen of all the celebrity princesses. With her reported multi-million dollar wardrobe, her pension for wearing lipstick and her high heels, she is so three going on thirty. She hates jeans and just loves a flirty dress. Plus she's already keenly interested in fashion even going so far as dressing mom Katie Holmes. It does not get much girlier than Suri.
Zahara Jolie-Pitt
Now at first glance, you would not immediately think girly-girl when looking at Zahara. She tends to wear earthtone hues and simple European designs. But in contrast to little sister Shiloh, her look is totally all girl. She also tends to accessorize very stylishly with a nice scarf or eye catching hat. One of my personal favorites is her Alice + Olivia black dress coat. Pricey but totally worth it.
Princess Tiaamii Andre
You have no choice but to be a girly-girl if your mother names you Princess. Your fashion fate is pretty much sealed. Katie Price aka Jordan dresses her daughter in oodles of pink, very feminine and pricey clothes. She even totes around a mini Louis Vuitton bag on occasion. Will she inherit her mom’s outrageous fashion sense? Time will only tell!
For the rest of the list, head on over to Celebrity Baby Blog here!
Speaking of Zahara, if your little girl is also into wildlife like her, then you would love our Zahara Wildlife Collection clippys!
This darling baby is wearing Pink Cow. You should also see six more styles to suit your girl's personality: Light Brown Sheep, Yellow Chick, Horizon Blue Penguin, Lime Turtle, Dark Brown Monkey and Reseda Green Frog. All with our signature non-slip grip, of course!
PONDER, PONDER, PONDER...
What do you think of these young girls? How do you think all that attention would affect them as they grow? This has been a topic of much debate: do you think Suri Cruise should be wearing those heels?

10 Things You Should Know About Your Newborn
Unfortunately, babies don't come with a manual. But don't let all the hassle and frazzle rob you of the joys of motherhood!
For starters, here are 10 weird but normal things you should know about your baby, from thebump.com:
1. Cradle cap
What's the deal? There's no way around it -- cradle caps are pretty gross. But they're also pretty common. How come? Honestly, nobody knows for sure. The good news is any dryness or flakiness will usually disappear within baby's first few months (though for some, random flare ups could go on for longer). In the meantime, try rubbing baby oil on the patches two or three times a week. Dr. Alanna Levine, parenting expert and pediatrician at Orangetown Pediatric Associates in New York, suggests making it a routine before baby's bath and scraping the caps off with a fine-toothed comb.
When to worry: Luckily, there's not too much worrying you need to do about this one -- it's basically nothing more than a common rash. But if it spreads beyond baby's scalp or seems to be growing more severe, ask your doc about getting a prescription ointment.
2. Explosive poop
What's the deal? Okay, maybe our use of the word "explosive" was a bit much. But the truth is, you haven't been officially initiated into parenthood until you've had to deal with a diaper explosion or two. In other words, you're not the first mom to clean baby poop off those newly painted nursery walls. For a little schooling on the physics of it all, Dr. Levine breaks it down: "Newborn poop is mostly liquid with some mustard-seed texture mixed in," she says. "As a result, it doesn't take much power to propel it across a room." Grossed out yet? Just wait until you’ve got an "up-the-backer" on your hands.
When to worry: As long as it has color (ranging from brown to green to yellow) and some seedy particles in it, baby's poop should be good to go. But if you spot any signs of blood, Dr. Levine says it's time to get on the phone with your doc.
3. Baby boobage
What's the deal? Remember those wacky hormones that plagued your entire pregnancy? (How could you forget?) Well, they did a number on baby too. And, unfortunately, one of the side effects of hanging out in your belly for 9 months can be...well, large boobs. Baby's exposure to your hormones can often cause breast tissue to develop, since it takes a while for the hormones to wear off. But don't stress, they're generally nothing to be concerned about and should go away in time.
When to worry: Notice any redness around baby's breast? If so, Dr. Levine also suggests taking baby's temp, to see if the redness is accompanied by a fever. These symptoms may be a sign of something more serious, and reason to get baby checked out.

The adorable baby girl in the photo is wearing a No Slippy Hair Clippy Mimi Double Dot Baby Bow! Just because she barely has hair doesn't mean she can't accessorize! With the clip's non-slip grip that doesn't tug or pull at her hair, you are assured it'll stay put.
PONDER, PONDER, PONDER...
What things happened to your baby that you thought were weird, but turned out normal? How did you deal with it? If you could choose just one important lesson you learned from motherhood, what would it be?

A Doting Daddy
I find it so precious how little girls can get their dads weak-kneed in adoration for them, especially if these dads openly admit it! Last time, we talked about how Jude Law's will was broken by his little girl.
This time, it's Greg Kinnear, who grew up with a brood of active boys but ironically ended up with three lovely girls. It's endearing how he is already preparing himself to wait on the porch with a shotgun for when little six-month-old Kate starts dating! He recently shared with People.com:
GREG KINNEAR LEARNS HIS LITTLE LADIES' LANGUAGE
Coming from a brood of boys, Greg Kinnear can rough and tumble with the best of them.
However, when life with wife Helen Labdon dished out daughters, the actor found himself trading it all in for tea parties.
“My grandfather had two boys, my uncle had three boys, my dad had me and my two brothers, each of my brothers have had two boys,” he told David Letterman on The Late Show last week.
“Then something happened with the chromosomal experiment and suddenly I’ve got three girls!”
As a result, Kinnear has been forced to learn a whole new language when it comes to sibling squabbles among Lily Katherine, 6 ½, Audrey Mae, 3 ½, and Kate, 6 months, lovingly referred to as ‘Katie Crunch Bomb’ by her sisters.
“All the tools I have are things like, ‘If your brother punches you, you punch him back harder,’” he jokes. “I have no skills [to say], ‘That’s a lovely gown honey, look at you!’”
And despite being “so ill-prepared” for his group of girls, Kinnear — and his wallet! – are catching on.
“Let me tell you something, you figure it out real quick. They say, ‘Well, you’ll pay for it later and as far as I can tell, I’m paying for it out the arse right now!” he laughs. “It’s expensive and there’s no stimulus package for dads with daughters.”
However, the “cute little cliché” is still relevant according to The Last Song star.
Quick to point out that while Letterman will be relaxing once son Harry is grown, Kinnear, 46, jokes that he’ll be stationed on the front porch.
“I do have a shotgun so there will come a time where you’ll be hanging out and having a good time. The son is fine, but [I'll be dealing with] the daughter thing.”
Even so, despite life’s unexpected surprise, Kinnear is happy with his lovely ladies — and insists he’s not pining for a son.
“Coming from boys I feel very lucky having them,” he confesses. “They’re really great.”

What a fun bunch! With Greg's girls growing up, we've got just the thing for them! And we're sure they'd love to know that it's named after them!
Now we just need to wait for baby Kate to grow a little more hair and we might come up with a clippy named after her!
If you've got a lovely girl of your own, check out or website for more styles! Who knows, you might find something with your girl's name on it :o)

Losing It
Sometimes, kids make it very difficult to just grin and bear it. Sometimes, you just want to throw a tantrum yourself. But as a parent, you know that you have to set a good example because ultimately, you are one of the biggest influences in your child's life. How you handle circumstances will reflect how your child would react to the same circumstances when he/she has to face them. So what do you do when you're on the verge of losing it?
A recent article from breezymama.com clues us in:
THINGS TO DO IF YOU LOSE YOUR TEMPER
7. Walk Away
While this seems like a ‘no brainer’, disengaging is often the very thing we fail to do. We stay engaged in the upset, our energy & frustration increases – our child’s energy & frustration increase and pretty soon, we’ve got a mess on our hands. If we could begin practicing walking away, then we can calm ourselves down, figure out what we want to be teaching our children and how we want to respond.
6. See Where Your Child is Right
I know this seems counter-intuitive to what we’re supposed to do, but by seeing where your child is right, you can get their perspective, begin to understand their feelings and see how they see you in this situation. In addition, you will no longer be viewing them as wrong which will go a long way.
5. Breathe
Breathing allows your nervous system to relax, gives you some time to calm down and respond instead of reacting and brings new energy to this situation.
4. Look at What’s REALLY Going on
If you find that you are losing your temper repeatedly or over the same situation then take the time to figure out what’s really going on. What is causing that situation to be a “hot button” for you? Why does it bother you so much? It probably has much more to do with you than it does your child and finding out will give you peace in other areas of your life, as well.
3. Do a Make-Up
When we make a mess, we clean it up. When we break something, we fix it. And when we disturb a relationship, we do something called a Make-Up. Make-ups are your way of doing, saying or contributing to the one you’ve disturbed your relationship with to re-establish harmony and peace (And it can be fun!).

Your Teen's Love Language
I'm not a mother yet, but I do spend a lot of time with my mom. And I know how difficult it can be for her to communicate with us (especially with my teenage siblings... oh alright, with me too although I'm older now).
Once we become teenagers, so many changes took place not just on the outside but also on the inside. Sometimes it gets confusing trying to adjust to these changes. It's a forked road: we're no longer children, yet we're not yet adults. In the process of "finding ourselves," we tend to pull away from our parents. But it doesn't mean that we want them out of our lives--or at least that wasn't the case for me! There were simply so many new emotions raging inside me that I didn't know how to express. In truth, I still loved and needed my parents, even as much as when I was a kid. I just wasn't sure how to express it.
I recently came across an article from Families.com written by a mom of teens. It's about knowing your children's "love languages." It's interesting and insightful. Let me know what you think:
LEARN YOUR TEEN'S LOVE LANGUAGE
"One of my favorite books that I have read more than once is "The Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman. This book talks about the different love languages that we have. They are: words of affirmation, quality time, receiving gifts, acts of service and physical touch. Most of us enjoy all of these love languages but we tend to especially appreciate one or two more than the others.
By reading this book not only do you discover what your primary love language is but you also realize that it's usually the love language you show toward other people. The problem with that is we may not be speaking their love language. So we need to figure out what other people's love language is.
I have learned to do this with my children. In fact there is a specific book Gary Chapman has written for parents called "The Five Love Languages of Children." I think this is especially helpful when raising tweens and teens. Relationships between parents and children tend to take a turn when they become tweens. It becomes different and because of that, many times parents are unsure how to walk this new path. But if you learn your teenager's love language and speak it to them, you really can't go wrong.
My oldest son who turns 16 next week is a very quiet, shy and introverted person. Although his personality traits need to be taken into account as our relationship grows and develops, I especially need to pay attention to his love language. The love language that speaks to him is words of affirmation. He tends to question and doubt himself which I think has a lot to do with his personality so he especially thrives on hearing encouraging words.
My daughter who is on the verge of turning 13 is not real shy but not real out there either. She is in the middle and actually that is very fitting since she really is our middle child. She is a balance of my oldest and youngest sons. However her primary love language is quality time. She especially enjoys when we have mother/daughter nights. Spending time with her means the most.
Then there is my youngest son who is a tween. He is the wild, crazy one of the bunch. He is very social and loves life. His primary love language is gift giving. He just lights up when he receives a gift.
As for myself, my primary love language is acts of service. Do you know which love language I tend to speak the most? Yes, acts of service. It is easy for me to get sucked into thinking that others enjoy that love language; however, I need to nurture the primary love language of each of my children. When I do that I notice that our relationship is better and communication is stronger. They feel more connected to me.
Learn your teen's love language and I can bet you will see a more positive change in your relationship."

It's Okay to Have a Messy Room!
Yup, you read that right. Apparently, there are benefits to letting your child have a messy room. I read an interesting article from Families.com and I knew I had to share it for laughs! Read on and let me know what you think!
TOP 10 REASONS YOU SHOULD LET YOUR CHILD HAVE A MESSY ROOM
1. It can enhance your child's balance and coordination skills. As they have to weave around the objects on their floor, leap into bed, and scale the mound of clothes without slipping.
2. Memory skills are improved. As your child struggles to remember where they left their library book, under the bed or maybe on the desk, they are working their memory. After all doesn't every parent want his or her child to develop a good memory?
3. Handyperson skills are developed. As they learn the fine art of unjamming a drawer that is stuffed too full of clothes. This could come in handy when they are a parent themselves.
4. The art of positive thinking is learned. As they think to themselves, "This room looks great. I know where everything is. I like it this way. It reflects who I am." In some cases this art is very finely developed.
5. They learn the power of persuasion as they convince parents and siblings to help them clean. This lesson is especially potent when they share a room with a sibling.
6. The idea that they have their own rights, space, and privacy is established. They learn that their room is a place where "parents won't violate their values and standards of cleanliness." If you can even say messy room and cleanliness in the same sentence?
You can read the rest of the reasons here! Come on, you know you want to...

Guide for Baby Naming
From all-time favorites like Mary or James, to celebrity favorites like Aidan or Ava, to the downright quirky like Sage Moonblood or Jermajesty, one of the first decisions you will ever make for your child is what his/her name will be.
While it has become a trend to think out of the box and give unique names for your children, there are some things that you'll have to consider. Lilsugar.com gives us some things to think about when baby naming:
21 CONSIDERATIONS FOR NAMING BABY
* Will you name the baby before your water breaks?
Actress Jessica Alba named lil Honor before the sweet girl was born. The mama-to-be even received personalized presents for her daughter at her baby shower.
* Would you bring your babe home without a name?
Many moms and dads wait until they meet their babe to decide on a definite moniker. At that point some couples still can't choose, so they take their wee one home from the hospital without a name. Celeb mama Brooke Burke and David Charvet were more than excited when they welcomed son Shaya, but it was weeks before they named him.
* Will you name the baby after mommy?
While some moms give their daughters monikers after their own, it's not nearly as common as it is for fathers. Famous chef Giada de Laurentiis named her daughter Jade, which is the American way of saying Giada. While it's the same meaning, it's different enough to stand on its own.
* Does the name's meaning matter to you?
Whether it's something traditional or never heard before, every name has a meaning. Some people inherit family titles, others carry the same moniker as '80s cartoon characters, and some names are plucked straight from a book.
* Will cultural naming play a role in your selection?
In Jewish tradition, names are given to honor family members, traditionally deceased relatives. Recent generations have modified the custom by using the first letter of the relative's name for their baby, like taking the "S" from Sally and naming their daughter Sabrina. In doing so, the family can remember a loved one on a daily basis.
* When is a name off limits?
Bronx Mowgli was likely not on Jessica Simpson's short list of names for her future children. I'll also go out on a limb and speculate that Angelina and Brad won't call a hypothetical seventh child Jennifer. But would it be inappropriate for Courteney Cox and David Arquette to have a son and name the baby Brad? It's one thing to rule out your own ex when it comes to naming a baby, but what about a best friend's old beau?
* Do you like family name themes?
Families like the Kardashians and the Duggars pick a letter and stick with it. But other parents choose a theme to guide them in naming their kids. In the famously talented Phoenix clan, each child was given a nature-inspired name — River, Rain, Joaquin, Liberty, and Summer. Chef Jamie Oliver recently joked that his wife, Jools, has floral aspirations since she's named their three daughters Poppy, Daisy and Petal.
You can find the rest here!
So whether you go for something traditional or go for something unique, take the time to ask yourself these guide questions.
We do a lot of baby naming ourselves. Except, our babies are our clippys of course! Come up with something lovely and we might end up naming our best clips after your baby! Check out our website for some name inspirations for girls: hairclippy.com.

Must-Have Spring Accessories
Your look is never complete without the right accessories. For a lot of girls (ahem-ME!-ahem), it can get intimidating to mix and match accessories with their outfit. It takes some serious passion for fashion to get every detail coordinated. And accessories are key players in giving your look that extra "oomph!" In fact, many times, a single accessory can make or break an outfit. But if you're clueless (ahem-ME!-ahem), where oh where do you even start?
It's all a matter of what your personal style is and how you would like to be perceived. There really aren't strict rules. For starters, how about trying these on for size? Spring's four must-have accessories according to stylebakeryteen.com:
1. Tribal prints - get a little exotic with tribal prints on jewelry, bags, scarves and belts. Mix and match prints or use a tribal accessory to make a neutral outfit pop.
2. Straw - straw accessories look amazing with both casual and dressy outfits. Pair them with a sun dress during weekend beach trips or with a more formal look for events like a baby or bridal shower.
3. Fringe - this trend is back again for spring '10. While bags, sandals and scarves are still cute, our favorite way to wear fringe is with a bib necklace and a basic tee.
4. Crossbody bags - wear a teeny-tiny bag just big enough for necessities like your cell phone and wallet - the more zippers the better.
To top it off, put on hair accessories that spell out SPRING! Not literally, of course, unless you're quirky. No Slippy Hair Clippy has a whole range dedicated to teens and women. And we think you will love our styles for Spring:
