Top 5 Wardrobe Essentials

Women's fashion is undeniably a LOT more complicated than men's. Or at least I've always thought so. I mean, how complicated could shirt and pants get? Get a decent pair of slacks and a crisp polo shirt and you're basically all set (plus shoes, of course). With women... where do you even start?!

Blouse or polo or shirt or tank top?
Pants or jeans or skirt?
Then if it's a skirt: A-line or high-waist or balloon?
Not to mention the accessories!

This is not to bash the men, of course. I'm just saying that with women's wear, there's just too many choices you have to make! Particularly with-ahem-style challenged people like me, it's hard even to think of building a decent wardrobe.

Good thing I crashed in StyleBakery.com because the lovely folks there compiled the top 5 wardrobe essentials that they say "every woman should own." Consider it a "starter kit" then you build your wardrobe from there!

Here's two items they mentioned:

CARDIGAN
Take a note from Michelle Obama, and find your best fitting cardigan to pair with jeans, skirts, and dresses. A great piece to keep in your desk when the chill is on blast.

SPECIAL FLAT SANDAL
Ideal for the urban city dweller, green commuter and mom on the go, a flat snadal with unique detailig like beads, bold colors or stones is a great and chic alternative to sneakers.

Must-Have Spring Accessories

Your look is never complete without the right accessories. For a lot of girls (ahem-ME!-ahem), it can get intimidating to mix and match accessories with their outfit. It takes some serious passion for fashion to get every detail coordinated. And accessories are key players in giving your look that extra "oomph!" In fact, many times, a single accessory can make or break an outfit. But if you're clueless (ahem-ME!-ahem), where oh where do you even start?

It's all a matter of what your personal style is and how you would like to be perceived. There really aren't strict rules. For starters, how about trying these on for size? Spring's four must-have accessories according to stylebakeryteen.com:

1. Tribal prints - get a little exotic with tribal prints on jewelry, bags, scarves and belts. Mix and match prints or use a tribal accessory to make a neutral outfit pop.

2. Straw - straw accessories look amazing with both casual and dressy outfits. Pair them with a sun dress during weekend beach trips or with a more formal look for events like a baby or bridal shower.

3. Fringe - this trend is back again for spring '10. While bags, sandals and scarves are still cute, our favorite way to wear fringe is with a bib necklace and a basic tee.

4. Crossbody bags - wear a teeny-tiny bag just big enough for necessities like your cell phone and wallet - the more zippers the better.

To top it off, put on hair accessories that spell out SPRING! Not literally, of course, unless you're quirky. No Slippy Hair Clippy has a whole range dedicated to teens and women. And we think you will love our styles for Spring:

Spring Trends You Already Own

Each season is an opportunity to play around with your style. Now that Spring is here, it's time for a fling with fashion once again!

Spring fashion is all about being feminine and sophisticated, yet also bold and fierce. It’s the time to be in full bloom, after all, with a refreshed style that breaks out of winter’s drabber colors. This season, the color palette is bursting with brights and pastels. It’s all about being youthful and fresh.

But you don't have to spend on a whole new wardrobe just for the season. Spring's blooming trends might already be hiding in your closet! Super fun fashion blog stylebakery.com gives you a rundown of 20 trends you already own that could not be any hotter this season:

1. Statement Necklace - One trend we're thrilled to see continue is the statement necklace. Ubiquitous for the past few seasons, it's the quickest way to make your outfit pop.

2. Boyfriend Blazer - Last season's must-buy, the boyfriend blazer, still looks fresh layered over dresses and skirts, or paired with jeans and shorts.

3. Belts - Thick or thin, belts continue their run as an important accessory, instantly transforming virtually anything in your wardrobe. Wear yours to cinch cardigans, jackets, t-shirts, blouses, dresses and more.

4. Florals - A top trend for more than 4 years in a row (2010, 2009, 2008, 2007), florals always look fresh.

5. Ruffles - Another trend that has been hot for several seasons (fall 2009, spring 2009), there's no need to put away your ruffled pieces just yet.

6. Trench Coat - The one piece on every Top 10 list year after year is the trench coat. Hopefully you've got at least one in your closet, bonus points if it's in a bright color. Don't own a trench? Get one - now.

7. Bangles - Cuffs may be the big trend for wrists this season, but it's still chic to pile on your chunky bangles.

8. Grecian or Gladiator Flats - In 2008, we predicted gladiator sandals would be a one-season trend, boy were we wrong! For the third year in a row, Grecian flat sandals are a summer footwear favorite (including ours).

9. Hobo Bag - You likely have a slouchy bag in your closet from seasons past and, thankfully, it's still in style.

10. Cargo Pants - A staple of your casual wardrobe for several years, the military-inspired pant looks fresh again this season. Wear yours with pretty printed tops and heels or wedges for a fresh look.

11. Denim Skirt - Whether mini or pencil, it's time to dust off your old denim skirt. Bonus points if it's a medium blue color a la Stella McCartney's spring collection.

12. Wedges - A mainstay of spring wardrobes for several seasons now, you likely own a pair or two, lucky you!

13. Skinny Jeans & Boyfriend Jeans - Both denim silhouettes are still favorites this season.

14. Turquoise Jewelry - Every few years, turquoise jewelry regains its must-have status proving to be a wise investment for your collection. Odds are you've got at least a piece or two in your jewelry box.

15. Nautical Striped Top - Timeless navy and white or red and white striped tops are suddenly trendy again.

Party Perfect Hairstyles

What's even better than a hoppin' holiday party? You being glam in that hoppin' holiday party, of course! And don't give me any old excuse that it's just with some of your closest friends anyway or a bunch of relatives. Unacceptable! You've been a hardworking mommy all year long, forgotten to shower several times (admit it), and average only three hours of sleep per night! This is that one time when you can unleash your inner goddess and not have to explain yourself.

So take out that favorite dress, put on some bling and glam up with these celebrity hairstyles with easy steps and handy tips from totalbeauty.com.

Ravishing like Reese

Channel Reese Witherspoon's classically glam layers by following these steps:

Step 1: Apply thickening lotion to wet hair to add lift before blow drying it.

Step 2: Create a bit more volume at the back of your crown by teasing a three-inch square section. Smooth a top layer of hair over the teased area with a brush to hide it.

Step 3: Use a curling iron held vertically to add soft waves all over. Start the curls at ear height, so the top of your hair remains straight. And be sure to wrap your hair around the iron, instead of clamping it in. Set the look with hairspray.
